The grain mill of Reppel
The water mill of Reppel
Bezoek de graanmolen, die als enige nog staat van de drie watermolens.
The water mill of Reppel is located on the Aa creek. The mill was first mentioned in a deed from 856. This would make it the oldest water mill in Belgium.
There used to be three water mills here: a grain mill, an oil mill and a bark mill, where mainly oak bark was ground for the tanneries. The oil mill was demolished in 1914, the bark mill in 1923. Only the grain mill has been preserved. Which can still be visited. Until 1975 it was still grinding for the customers of the pay mill.
On the outside of the water facade you will find the giant steel undercutting wheel with 8 double spokes and 40 blades. The diameter of the wheel is 6 meters. The water wheel turns in the grinding sluice. The former two unloading sluices have been changed into one wide unloading sluice, this because of the driftwood.
