The Cloots Mill

Discover the story of the Clootsmolen, also called Neermolen or Damburgmolen, during your visit to the mill.

Learn about the history of the cover mill in Bocholt during your visit. In 1296, Count Arnold V of Loon told that his feudal man, Gozewijn van Born, lord of Elsloo, ceded a portion of water from a stream running by the mill, called the Lower Mill in the seigniory of Bocholt, to Willem II of Horne, lord of Horn.

The mill was a corn mill and in 1539 it was named as a ban mill of the Lord of Bocholt, who was then Count of Horne. The mill, listed on the Ferraris maps, among others, received a brick building during the 19th century. The mill house that can be visited today is a relic of the 19th century.

Later the creek was diverted, thus the mill was located on a small tributary stream, but it still received enough water to run occasionally. The intention is to restore the stream to its original bed, so that the mill will once again be located on the stream.
